Egolessness - Destroying ego or making it infinite?

Everybody knows what ego is but it's still difficult to define.
Ego means I in latin. Simply put, it's the self part of you or your idea or opinion of yourself, especially the feeling of your own importance and ability. Not so simple actually - try answering - Who are you? Most people would say they belong to xyz state, country, religion, their educational background, jobs, businesses etc. etc.
Majority of the people think they are important without having a real idea of who they are - Imagine defining yourself without identifying with your geography, religion, education and work, what would you say? The feelings that we are important and we matter have a lot to do with our education and how we are raised. Enough definitions i guess.
# Is ego good or bad?
As with most concepts, there is no good or bad or maybe it's both. How? It's good because it makes you want to grow, to become a better version of yourself. Without having a certain confidence in your ability and self, creating value wouldn't be possible. It's bad when it reaches the level of a superiority complex - when you genuinely believe others are just not upto the mark and your way is the only right way.
# What happens if there is  egolessness?
Egolessness sounds like destruction of ego but it can mean the diametrically opposite - infinite ego ! Let's delve deeper.
If you don't define yourself too strongly with your physical self and imagine yourself as a part of the entire cosmos (even astrophysics says everything is energy), you wouldn't know what is you and what is not you. And you would feel so much more responsible for everything around you - let me give you an example - imagine driving around in a fast, powerful supercar - rented vs. your own. You would rev way higher, maybe redlining very frequently in a rented car, right? Everything is the same besides ownership. Now, what if you start owning the cosmos, not literally ofcourse - that would end up with you behind bars in all probability. Would you want to hurt something wilfully?
Only the definition of what's you has changed and you start feeling pain (emotional) if you cause harm to the trees, other animals etc etc because they are all
an extension of you. Now, you do only the absolutely necessary stuff - you still cut trees if you need wood, but would make sure you don't waste it and maybe plant some more as a way of saying thanks or sorry!
Egolessness leads to kindness and compassion. You become a part of everything else without anything sticking to you. You have a fluidic identity, just like water and you handle various situations gracefully without any stress or strain creeping in which effectively gives way to a strong surge of calmness and peace within you. Would you like such a state? And, mind you I don't intend to say you lose the importance you place on your abilities (which could have devastating ramifications), you just extend the scope of who you are. Egolessness does mean infinite ego in such a context.
I believe it can lead to world peace in the real sense of the word, if we could let go the current definition of ego and simply redefine it. Totally destroying ego isn't practical/possible and even if it was, that would be simply catastrophic.
